Weinzierlberg, Sand Pit & Gebling
The grapes for our regional wine come from the Weinzierlberg, Sandgrube and Gebling sites, among others. The Gebling vineyard was first mentioned in a document in 1284. The wines from the Gebling site have a mineral character, are powerful and expressive. The soil consists of weathered, calcareous conglomerate that is partly covered by loess, which in turn has a local gravel layer. This south-facing site is dominated by loess soils over primary rock composed of Gföhler gneiss and amphibolite, and is strongly influenced by the Pannonian climate, as this vineyard is a very heat-storing site. The sand pit is characterised by thick loess deposits which, together with Danube sand and gravel, form the base material for calcareous, well-aerated and humus-rich soils. Loess is fine rock dust consisting of calcareous particles mixed with dolomite, feldspar, quartz, mica and clay minerals. It was blown out by the wind from the forefield of the glaciers during the cold phases of the ice age when there was little vegetation and was deposited again in the Alpine foothills.
